[Sep 01 '07]      Prosthetics Outreach Foundation Mourns Passing of Kendall Barker

Dr. Ken Barker "Ken was a truly unique person, who was so much more than a donor." - Winfried Danke, Executive Director, Prosthetics Outreach Foundation

Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (POF) mourns the passing of Kendall Howard Barker (1953-2007), a physician who lost a leg to cancer many years ago. Ken was instrumental in helping POF launch a prosthetic rehabilitation initiative in Sierra Leone, West Africa. His support resulted in nearly 100 amputees receiving urgently needed prosthetic care within the first 12 months of operations of a new prosthetics center that he helped to establish.

Ken's legacy will live on in Sierra Leone, as POF expands its outreach program to bring prosthetic care to amputees in rural northern Sierra Leone who are unable to travel to the Makeni Prosthetics Center.

To mark Ken's passing, Prosthetics Outreach Foundation is pleased to dedicate the Makeni Prosthetics Center in his memory. "Without Ken there would be no Makeni Center today and we would not be able to bring hope and healing to children and adult amputees in northern Sierra Leone," remarks POF Executive Director Winfried Danke. "He has made a huge difference in the lives of amputees in Sierra Leone."
