[Jan 16 '07]      Robert G. Veith, M.D., Elected New President of POF

In January 2007, Robert Veith, M.D., was elected President of the Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (POF). Dr. Veith is an orthopedic surgeon with Valley Orthopedic Associates in Renton, Washington. He graduated from Stanford University and attended medical school at the University of Washington, where he also completed his orthopedic surgery residency. Dr. Veith was welcomed into his new leadership role by outgoing POF President Donna Burgess, the daughter of the late founder of POF, Ernest M. Burgess, M.D.

Over the last five years, Dr. Veith has volunteered repeatedly with the Prosthetics Outreach Foundation to travel to Vietnam and Bangladesh to perform life-changing orthopedic surgery for disabled children and adults. Many of the children have suffered limb deformities as a result of polio and clubfoot; others have lost their limbs through landmines and accidents. Dr. Veith and fellow doctors revised amputations and corrected debilitating limb deformities to enable these children and adults to walk again. The Prosthetics Outreach Foundation restores mobility and independence worldwide to amputees and other disadvantaged persons suffering from orthopedic disabilities. Since 1989, POF has helped more than 13,000 men, women and children regain their mobility. POF currently has active programs in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Sierra Leone.
