[Aug 22 '06]      Bangladesh: Nalta Hospital Co-founder Receives Prestigious Award

Prof. Dr. Ruhal Haque, co-founder and chief patron of the Nalta Hospital in rural southwestern Bangladesh, recently received the prestigious Dr. Bidan Chandra Roy International Award from the International Civil Society of Kolkata, India. He was honored with the award for outstanding contributions to the medical and social services in Bangladesh and Southeast Asia.

Prof. Dr. Ruhal Haque FRCS, FICS was born in Nalta, Bangladesh in 1944. He is currently President of the International College of Surgeons, Bangladesh and President of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh, Shadhinata Chikitshak Parishad. Formerly, Prof. Dr. Haque served as the Director of the National Orthopedic Hospital and Head & Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at BSM Medical University in Bangladesh.

Since 2000, Prof. Dr. Haque has volunteered his time at the Nalta General Hospital which he established in his home town with financial support from Prosthetics Outreach Foundation Board Member George Bagby, M.D., of Spokane, Washington, U.S.A. The Prosthetics Outreach Foundation helped establish a prosthetics and orthotics center at the hospital and continues to support orthopedic rehabilitation efforts at the center.
